TAG Heuer announced the launch of the Premier League referee application for the company’s smartwatch, further deepening its partnership with professional football. This application is designed by TAG Heuer in collaboration with referees from the Premier League. All referees will wear this Swiss watchmaker’s disruptive watch during the 2016/17 season.
In order to develop the functions of the application and create an important tool to help the referees accurately and safely track the timing of the game, TAGHeuer exchanged various knowledge with first-class Premier League referees.
This application is simple and easy to use and is tailored to track the natural rhythm of a football game, covering 45 minutes of the first and second half (including stoppage time) and 15 minutes of intermission. Its design is friendly and “safe,” and gestures allow referees to focus on the game without worrying about accidentally stopping the time. During the pre-match warm-up, Premier League referees have used this application to familiarize themselves with the TAG Heuer Connected smartwatch.
Sports timing is part of the DNA of the TAG Heuer brand. TAG Heuer has a long history of sports timing. For more than 100 years, the brand has recorded various forms of sports, including sailing, skiing and of course racing, at the highest level. It all started in 1911, when the company applied for a patent for a device called ‘Time of Trip’, an instrument stopwatch designed for cars and airplanes. In 1916, the company launched the Mikrograph, the world’s first chronograph that measures 1/100 of a second. In the 1970s, the Swiss company also developed the famous high-tech timing system for F1, heralding the birth of today’s well-known precision movement.
Today, this newly developed application is the latest in a series of collaborations that connects TAG Heuer to global football. TAG Heuer is the official timekeeper for the Premier League, Spanish Football League, Bundesliga Powers, NFL, America’s Cup, China Football Association Super League and the Australian National Football Team.
In July, TAGHeuer became the official timekeeper and global partner of Manchester United, the world’s largest and oldest football club.
TAG Heuer CEO Jean-Claude Biver said: ‘This is not a publicity stunt, but a practical tool that referees can use on the field.
